Partner and Dept. Co-Chair Joseph P. Asselta Presents on “Current Trends in Utilization of Minority and Women Owned Businesses (MWBEs) on Publicly-Funded Construction Projects”

Uniondale, May 20, 2015 – Partner Joseph P. Asselta presented, “Current Trends in Utilization of Minority and Women Owned Businesses (MWBEs) on Publicly-Funded Construction Projects,” to the Nassau County Bar Association’s Construction Law Committee.  As Governor Andrew Cuomo has recently set the goal of MWBE utilization on New York State contracts at 30%, the highest such target in the U.S., familiarity with MWBE programs and requirements at all levels of government is essential in today’s construction market.

Joseph P. Asselta is Co-Chair of the Firm’s Construction Law Department. He represents clients in all segments of the construction industry including owners, developers, financial institutions, design professionals, general contractors, construction managers, government contractors, trade contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, equipment rental companies, insurers and sureties (on both public and private projects).  Mr. Asselta has prosecuted and defended numerous small and multi-million dollar claims relating to non-payment, extra work, delays, changed and unforeseen conditions, design and construction defects, defaults, terminations, mechanic’s liens, prevailing wages and project labor issues, insurance coverage and performance and payment bonds in both state and federal courts and administrative agencies, arbitration and mediation.  A significant portion of his practice also includes the review, drafting and negotiation of construction contracts and related project documents.
