Jane Chen is an associate with the Firm’s corporate and real estate practice groups. Ms. Chen concentrates her practice in various facets of real estate law; including representing various homeowners associations, real estate developers and sponsors in drafting and filing offering plans. Ms. Chen also represents cooperative corporations in the transfer of shares and ownership, Board and shareholder disputes, and foreclosures. Prior to joining the Firm, Ms. Chen served as a law clerk at a publicly traded national bank, where she drafted and reviewed lease agreements, vendor contracts, corporate policies and correspondence to governmental, regulatory, and third-party entities. She was also selected to join the Student Honors Externship Program with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission.
During law school, Ms. Chen devoted a great deal of her time to pro bono service to the community, as well as to law school organizations. She received a Gold Level Public Service Award completing more than 750 hours of volunteer service. She was elected President of the Asian-Pacific American Law Student Association (APALSA) and collaborated with AABANY to provide legal and translation services to individuals. She was also the President of the Tax Law Society, where she headed the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) and collaborated with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to provide tax guidance and tax return filings for low income individuals.
Ms. Chen authored a note published in the Journal of International Business and Law (JIBL) entitled, Cyber Security: Bull’s-Eye on Small Businesses, 16 J. Int’l Bus. & L. 97 (2016). She was subsequently appointed as the Notes and Comments Editor of JIBL where she mentored a team of junior staffs and guided them in the process of publishing their note.
Ms. Chen is fluent in three Chinese dialects (Mandarin, Cantonese and Fuzhounese).
