Firm Zoning Attorneys Present at the Nassau County Bar Association

Uniondale, December 5, 2018 – Partner Andrea Tsoukalas Curto and Associates Jessica Leis and Erik Snipas presented a mock case before a zoning board of appeals as part of a Nassau County Bar Association CLE seminar.  Attendees were instructed by Firm attorneys on the legal standards for requesting conditional/special use permits, area variances and use variances and how to rebut community opposition.

Andrea Tsoukalas Curto is a well-known and respected land use and zoning attorney and Co-Chair of the Renewable Energy practice group.  Ms. Tsoukalas Curto concentrates her practice in zoning, land use, environmental, and municipal law matters. She represents a wide variety of clients in the development of commercial and residential properties. Her practice is unique as she represents both applicants and municipalities. Counseling zoning boards, which includes drafting decisions on their behalf, gives her an invaluable perspective when representing applicants such as what a board is looking for, the importance of a municipality’s comprehensive plan, and how community support can affect the outcome of an application.

Jessica A. Leis is an Associate with the Firm’s land use and zoning practice group.  She appears regularly before various municipal boards for public hearings on both residential and commercial applications and is skilled in the application process pertaining to variances, conditional/special use permits and subdivisions.  She also appears in Nassau and Suffolk County District Courts on behalf of individuals and entities charged with code violations.  Additionally, she drafts petitions and memoranda of law for Article 78 proceedings to appeal the municipal boards’ determinations.

Erik Snipas is an Associate in the Firm’s Land Use and Zoning & Industrial Development Agency (IDA) Benefits and Government Incentives practice groups.  Mr. Snipas concentrates his practice on the complex application process pertaining to variances, special use permits, as well as minor and major subdivisions.  Mr. Snipas regularly appears before municipal boards on behalf of large corporations, real estate developers and residential property owners regarding variances, site plan approval, as well as minor and major subdivisions. He also appears in district court on behalf of entities charged with code violations.
