Douglas W. Atkins (Brooklyn Law School, 2005) concentrates
his practice in the areas of tax certiorari, real estate
and condemnation. He has experience in tax reduction proceedings
for all types of commercial real estate throughout Long
Island's counties, towns and villages. Mr. Atkins
also has obtained substantial tax refunds for owners of
specialty properties such as cellular phone tower sites,
sand processing plants and tidal wetlands.
Mr. Atkins has
successfully completed both commercial and residential
real estate appraisal courses through the Columbia Society
of Real Estate Appraisers.
Mr. Atkins is admitted to the
bars of New York and Connecticut. He is a member of the
Nassau and Suffolk County Bar Associations, where he serves
on the Tax Certiorari and Condemnation Law Committee for
each. He is also an active member of the Huntington Township
Chamber of Commerce. He is a frequent lecturer and writer
on the topics of commercial property tax and valuation.
He has been published in the New York Real Estate Journal,
the New York Law Journal, the Suffolk County Lawyer and
various other local publications.
For his accomplishments
and achievements in the business community, Doug was selected
as one of Long Island's outstanding young risers
by the Huntington Township Chamber of Commerce. The award
is presented to Long Island's
top 30 professionals under the age of 30. In 2011, Doug was selected as a Rising Star by New York Super Lawyers.
Prior to joining the Firm, Mr. Atkins
held positions at the Suffolk County District Attorney's
Office and the Kings County Supreme Court.
