Update on Ireh v. Nassau University
Medical Center, et al., 09-072-cv
by Forchelli, Curto, Deegan Attorney Christopher
G. Gegwich
On March 30, 2010, the United States
Court of Appeals for Second Circuit issued a decision affirming
the order of the trial court denying plaintiff-appellant’s
motion for a new trial in the case of Ireh v. Nassau
University Medical Center, et al., 09-0712-cv.
In this
case, plaintiff-appellant asserted claims of race and national
origin discrimination, retaliation and a violation of his
due process rights. In November 2008, Partner
Christopher G. Gegwich obtained a complete defense verdict,
dismissing all of plaintiff-appellant’s claims in
their entirety, after a two-week jury trial. Mr.
Gegwich was the lead attorney both at trial and on the
appeal.
Christopher G. Gegwich concentrates his practice
in the areas of labor and employment law. Mr. Gegwich has
extensive experience defending management clients in a
wide variety of labor and employment litigation matters
in federal and state courts, as well as before a variety
of administrative governmental agencies, such as the Equal
Employment Opportunity Commission and the New York State
Division of Human Rights. He has successfully represented
employers in litigation matters, including arbitrations
and trials in both state and federal court, involving claims
of breach of employment contracts, trade secret and non-compete
matters, harassment, discrimination, whistleblower activities
and retaliation. He also has significant experience representing
